Song of the nile stephanie dray5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Review 2: Oh Helios!!! How he's grown up in this book - and I hope this isn't the last we see of him, though I can't begrudge Selene a happily ever after with Juba, either. but for Selene to speak of how their hearts beat together in the womb in one sentence and then talk about how his muscles felt against her body was a little much for me. I understand the special bond that they have because they are twins, and I understand that they didn't view it as anything weird, but rather as something normal. more he next person, but these made me sick to my stomach with the details- she specifically states, "He wasn't my brother anymore-" Yes, yes he is. I enjoy a good book's sex scene as much as t. Yes, I am aware that many dynasties, especially the Ptolmeys, wed brother to sister, but these were very vivid and very sexual. ![]() ![]() This was a book you could really curl up under a blanket with. The point where Selene chose Mauretania over Egypt felt a bit rushed and sudden, but epiphanies in real life are like that sometimes! The only thing that bothered me were the sex scenes between Selene and Helios. During the whole book, you could be Selene. Review 1: This book was excellent as a sequel and would have been excellent as a stand alone! Many people complained about the magic in the first one- this had less of it, so I am sure that will please some people.During any sexual scenes between Selene and Augustus, you could really feel the disgust. ![]()

Dialogues between hylas and philonous5/24/2023 ![]() This volume is linked with the other texts in your Logos library, allowing you to cross-reference important words with a click. They are only assigned to objects by the mind of God. However, they are not qualities which are inherent to an abstract material object. ![]() These patterns of perception are the subject of scientific study and described as laws of nature. For example, humans experience the perception “touching water” and “feeling wet” at the same time. Through Philonous, Berkeley puts forward his “master argument.” The argument is essentially that it is impossible truly to conceive of an object outside of the mind because in the very act of trying to conceive of that object it is in the mind.īerkeley also puts forward his theory that God is the perceptive mind that is always present and, therefore, is the mind that gives sensible qualities to objects. ![]() Philonous argues that, while it is common sense to assume that the objects you perceive are real, it is against common sense to assume that those objects exist independent of perception. ![]() In Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, Berkeley sets up a Socratic dialogue between his own idealist views, in the person of Philonous (“lover of mind”), and the more Lockean views of Hylas (“matter”). ![]()

The sixth great extinction book5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() Homo sapiens has been encouraging the extinction of various species long before the industrial era. There are several ways in which the human race is responsible for the sixth mass extinction. Here are 3 lessons I’ve learned about the sixth mass extinction of the species which is happening right in front of our eyes: But is there still something we could do to stop – or at least mitigate – the effects of what we’ve “accomplished” so far? This certainly adds some perspective to how homo sapiens fits into the big picture of our planet’s history. Today, the human-induced cataclysm is seen as equally destructive to the Earth biosphere as those natural events. ![]() We are talking fall of an asteroid and rapid cataclysms that dramatically changed weather and atmospheric conditions. ![]() But it does show the extent to which human activity has been reshaping the world’s ecosystem for thousands of years.Īll of the five previous mass extinctions came by external forces of nature. If someone asked you what is mankind’s most important legacy at this point in history – what would you answer? The invention of the World Wide Web? Our collective knowledge expressed in modern science?Īccording to Elizabeth Kolbert’s award-winning book, The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, our most significant legacy may be causing a mass extinction on Earth.
