The strain night eternal5/22/2023 The talented team of writers turned out an intelligent and worthy conclusion, but when old Abraham Setrakian died, a little heart and soul died with him. This final installment is definitely action-packed, top-notch horror, with all the loose ends wrapped up tighter than a mummy, but, I miss the del Toro/Hogan attention and creativity that set their previous work just a little ahead of the pack of scary reads: the wonderful atmospheric back-stories that enveloped you, the characters' quirks and chinks that made us care (even occassionally provided a chuckle amidst the terror), I miss the magic and fun that allowed The Strain to dwell in the realm of horror with one clawed foot crossing that genre line. How merely satisfying to cross the finish line, hmmm. Fellow Strain Trilogy Readers: (*this is not a stand alone read! so get The Strain, The Fall, and join us!) How we loved the delicious goosebumps we got each time we heard the strigoi Sardou's ""! How terrifyingly fun it was to run up the stairs in the dark and hope the "turned" weren't crawling up the sides of our house to our bedroom windows! How devotedly we counted down the days (that left our eclectic pack of heroes suspended in the dark vampire-haven of nuclear winter) and waited-as hungry for the story's conclusion as the creepy crawly Master was for world domination.

Kowal has released three novel-length prequels - The Calculating Stars and The Fated Sky in 2018, and The Relentless Moon in 2020 - depicting the disasters which led Elma's timeline to go to Mars in the 1960s and the struggles of establishing a colony there. The Los Angeles Review of Books considered it "shaky", attributing its Hugo win both to voter sympathy for Kowal's having been disqualified the previous year, and for its use of "the twin voter vices of nostalgia and sentimentality". A text version was subsequently published on Kowal's own site and on Tor.com it won the 2014 Hugo Award for Best Novelette. "The Lady Astronaut of Mars" was nominated for the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novelette, but was disqualified on the grounds that, since it was originally presented in audio format, and Kowal had included stage directions for the benefit of readers, it should instead be in the category for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form - where it did not have enough nominations to remain on the final ballot. Thirty years after Elma York led the first expedition to Mars, she must choose between going on one last space mission or staying with her elderly husband as he dies. It was first published in 2012 as part of the anthology Rip-Off. "The Lady Astronaut of Mars" is an alternate history/ science fiction short story by Mary Robinette Kowal.

Snow falling book jane the virgin5/21/2023 Snow Falling is a sweeping historical romance set in 1902 Miami-a time of railroad tycoons, hotel booms, and exciting expansion for the Magic City. With these tumultuous events as inspiration, Jane’s breathtaking first novel adapts her story for a truly epic romance that captures the hope and the heartbreak that have made the television drama so beloved. Jane the Virgin, the Golden Globe, AFI, and Peabody Award–winning The CW dramedy, has followed Jane’s telenovela-esque life-from her accidental artificial insemination and virgin birth to the infant kidnapping and murderous games of the villainous Sin Rostro to an enthralling who-will-she-choose love triangle. It’s been a lifetime (and three seasons) in the making, but Jane Gloriana Villanueva is finally ready to make her much-anticipated literary debut! “Fans of the show will undoubtedly enjoy the chance to read Jane’s book in real life.” -Entertainment Weekly “Just the thing for a cold winter’s night between episodes.” -The Washington Post Book World

The Playboy's Baby by J.M. Stewart5/21/2023 He was getting in over his head with her. “Dillon?”Īll kinds of warning bells went off in his head when Dillon sank into the chair in his office and dialed Emma’s number Friday night. When she found herself falling asleep she forced herself to open her eyes, shattering the fantasy. The simple sound of his voice on the other end of the line wrapped around her until she almost felt him right beside her, laying with her in the dark. Coming from anyone else, his words might have been boring, but coming from him, she felt engrossed in his world. He spent the next half hour filling her with tidbits about the club, the workers, and the minute details of his night. “Talk to me? The sound of your voice helps. “Do me a favor?”Ī low creak sounded over the line. She bit down on her bottom lip and hesitated. “Yes.” More than she had words to tell him. The images and sensations slid around her like a warm blanket, soft and soothing, melting the tension from her body. Once again his affect on her senses surprised her. The image didn’t heat her up the way she expected. The quiet rhythm of his heartbeat sounded through the recesses of her memory. She felt again his strong arms wrapped around her, the warmth and solidness of his body. The way he pulled her out of her seat and into his embrace. The image rose in her mind, of her first night back in town, sitting in his office with him.

Freed christian grey5/21/2023 The Fifty Shades Trilogy was a big hit and if they marked the end of Ana and Christian’s story it would have been fine. In fact, I’d argue that Freed is better than its predecessor. The events are the same and some of the dialogue is identical, but the perspective shift is enough to give the stories a brand new and refreshing twist. They aren’t new stories, but they’re very different from the originals because the point of view shifts from Anastasia Steele to Christian Grey. It’s important to note that Freed, like Grey and Darker, are retellings of the stories originally featured in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. Freed takes fans on an insightful journey that takes a deep dive into the mind of Grey Enterprises Holdings’ enigmatic CEO as he walks down the aisle with the love of his life. At over 750 pages, it’s a love letter to fans loaded with delightful details that were missing from the original tale. James is back with Freed, the book that explores the events depicted in Fifty Shades Darker from Christian Grey’s perspective. |
